Kick-off meeting für new R&D project

On September 10, 2024, GIWEP and the "Institut für Industrieofenbau und Wärmetechnik" at RWTH Aachen University met for the kick-off meeting of the BMWK joint project “FlexHybHeat” with project partner Elbe-Stahlwerke Feralpi in Riesa. As part of the project, a highly flexible and hybrid heating concept for billet reheating before rolling is being developed. A key objective is to reduce CO2 emissions. Various heating concepts are being created and evaluated using CFD simulations, process modeling and process chain models. The modeling and evaluation are supported by measurements on existing plants. The implementation of the concept includes a new process control system as well as an online LCA.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection is funding this ambitious project, which will contribute to the decarbonization of steel industry, with around 1 million euros.
