The combination of different energy sources and their flexible and efficient use play an important role in the decarbonization of energy-intensive processes in the metals industry. Against this background, GIWEP has recently been working on a new research and development project together with partners from science and industry. The aim of this project is to develop a technique for a hybrid heating concept for billet heating in electric steel plants which is characterized by high flexibility and low CO2 emissions. The results of this project will also be integrated into the GIWEP process control systems and will then provide new functionalities for energy-efficient production.
